Hyperscale data center at heart of Morocco’s digital sovereignty – The North Africa Post

Morocco has unrolled its 2030 digital transition strategy and is investing in artificial intelligence and data centers to strengthen its digital sovereignty.

Minister in charge of digital transition and the reform of the administration Amal Fallah Seghrouchni announced that Morocco is preparing to launch a 500 MW data center in Dakhla, a key step to position the Kingdom as a digital hub for the region.

The center will add to other data centers and cloud services hosted in the country.

“Through this network of data centers, the kingdom not only asserts its digital sovereignty, but also its ambition to become a regional digital hub serving Africa,” Seghrouchni told Reuters.

In June, a major international consortium led by Naver, NVIDIA, and Lloyds Capital has announced that they will be working together to build a next-generation artificial intelligence (AI) data center in Morocco.

Morocco’s digital strategy, Maroc Numerique 2030, budgeted 11 billion dirhams over 2024-2026, focusing on training, fiber optic and AI.
