Morocco secures US recognition of fisheries compliance, ensures market access until 2029 – The North Africa Post

Morocco has officially obtained recognition from the US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA Fisheries), confirming the compliance of its fisheries with the provisions of the US Marine Mammal Protection Act, the State Secretariat for Maritime Fisheries announced this week.

The certification, effective from January 1, 2026, to December 31, 2029, is a decisive step enabling the Kingdom to continue exporting its seafood products to the US market, unless otherwise decided by NOAA during this period, the State Secretariat for Maritime Fisheries said in a press release.

This US recognition comes after the relevant US authorities reviewed Morocco’s application for compliance, concluding that all national fisheries included on the “List of Foreign Fisheries” are now recognized as complying with US standards.

This major strategic advance for the national fisheries sector will enshrine Moroccan products’ presence and competitiveness in one of the world’s largest markets, while strengthening the trust of international consumers and importers in the Kingdom’s commitment to environmental standards and sustainability principles in the management of its fisheries.

Actually, this US recognition reflects national public policies’ maturity concerning the preservation of marine resources, through the adoption of concrete and effective measures guaranteeing their sustainability and optimal exploitation.

Moreover, the development is aligned with Morocco’s broader strategy to boost the competitiveness of the fisheries sector, expand the global reach of national products, and ensure a balance between economic growth and environmental stewardship.
