Spain’s Ministry of the Interior has reaffirmed the strength of cooperation between Spain and Morocco on migration management, emphasizing that close coordination between the two countries remains a key pillar in combating irregular migration and human trafficking networks.
In a statement issued on Thursday, Spanish Interior Minister Fernando Grande-Marlaska said that migrant smuggling networks are exploiting certain judicial rulings to encourage irregular crossings, particularly among young people seeking to reach the autonomous city of Ceuta.
The minister thanked the Moroccan authorities for the efforts undertaken by Moroccan security forces in recent days, noting that these operations successfully prevented thousands of irregular migration attempts.
According to the statement, Morocco and Spain have agreed to strengthen their operational coordination and intensify joint efforts to address irregular migration flows.
A central outcome of the agreement is the commitment to expedite the return of all individuals who entered Ceuta illegally, whether by land or by sea, in accordance with the legal procedures and bilateral mechanisms in force between the two countries.
