Morocco’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates, Nasser Bourita, stated that relations between Morocco and the Netherlands are entering a new phase based on clarity and shared ambition, noting that the ties date back more than four centuries, reflecting deep historical roots and strong connections between the two countries.
His remarks came during a joint press conference with his Dutch counterpart, who chose Morocco as his first destination outside the European sphere since taking office, a move that highlights the importance of bilateral cooperation.
The Moroccan official explained that relations between Rabat and Amsterdam have seen a positive shift in recent years after a period marked by certain tensions, adding that they are now grounded in transparency and mutual ambition, helping rebuild trust.
He also emphasized that the strength of these ties is reinforced by the relationship between King Mohammed VI and King Willem-Alexander, giving the partnership a strategic dimension.
Bourita added that Morocco–Netherlands cooperation has reached a level of maturity that reflects the priorities of both sides and is based on a shared vision across political, economic and cultural fields, opening new prospects for cooperation.
