Rabat – London-based diversified metals and minerals producer Xtract Resources Plc has announced the acquisition of two exploration licenses in Morocco’s Khenifra province through Wildstone SARL, its 80%-owned subsidiary.
The Amghas licenses, covering an area of 32 square kilometers, were purchased for $105,000 (MAD 1.06 million) and will remain valid until mid-2026.
The site includes a former antimony mine, last active in the 1950s, where historic operations uncovered high-grade sulfide veins with ore exceeding 40% antimony content.
The company has already launched baseline studies and an environmental impact assessment as part of efforts to restore the site’s mining license.
Initial mapping suggests mineralized structures extending over several kilometers.
Xtract confirmed that exploration work is in progress, including underground channel sampling aimed at establishing a preliminary mineral resource estimate.
The company stressed that the region’s mineralized potential could revive production of antimony, a critical raw material increasingly sought after worldwide for use in batteries, flame retardants, and semiconductors.
Antimony has been classified by the EU and the US as a strategic metal due to its role in energy transition technologies and defense applications.
With supply heavily concentrated in China, new sources from Africa are attracting growing international interest.
By securing the Khenifra licenses, Xtract is positioning itself within this expanding market while also strengthening Morocco’s profile as a hub for critical minerals exploration and production.
