A state of alert was reported on Saturday morning in the Mghogha industrial zone of Tangier after several cases of fainting and breathing difficulties were recorded in an incident suspected to be linked to a gas leak inside an industrial facility.
According to available information, 25 people were taken to hospital for medical treatment, including 21 workers from the factory involved and four individuals from the surrounding area.
The incident has renewed discussion about occupational health and safety standards within industrial facilities, particularly in one of Morocco’s most important industrial hubs.
Competent authorities are continuing their investigations to determine the exact circumstances of the incident and identify the substance that may have caused the reported symptoms.
While the results of the official inquiry are still pending, calls have intensified for stronger preventive measures and enhanced workplace safety protocols to protect employees and nearby communities.
