Rabat – On the second anniversary of the October 7 attack, Hamas released a statement saying that the war and its repercussions continue to “cast their political shadows” on the region.
The group described the attack as “a major turning point” in the region’s history, slamming Israel’s genocide against the Palestinian people and committing “massacres against defenceless civilians amid shameful international silence and Arab failure.”
Hamas said that despite the destruction, Palestinians in Gaza “remain rooted in their land” and determined to “cling to their legitimate rights” against attempts of “liquidation and forced displacement.”
The statement commended “popular steadfastness and the heroism of the people” who continue to resist “the occupying foreigners and scum of the earth.”
Meanwhile, the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) renewed its call for an immediate ceasefire, marking two years since the start of the devastating war on Gaza.
“Two years of war in Gaza. Two years too long,” the agency said in a post on X. UNRWA called for the release of all Israeli captives and Palestinian detainees and for Israel to lift its siege on Gaza.
The agency said that opening the crossings under UN supervision is vital to ensure the “standard flow of humanitarian aid and commercial supplies” needed to sustain life in the enclave.
The Gaza Health Ministry also issued a statement warning that the territory’s health system has collapsed under the pressure of continuous bombardment and shortages.
It described the situation as “not just a humanitarian crisis,” but a “complete and deliberate collapse of the foundation of human existence represented by the health services system.”
The healthcare system has been subjected to “devastating and fatal blows that have struck at the very nerve of the nation,” the ministry said, accusing Israel of committing a “health genocide.”
Hospitals across Gaza have been struggling to operate with limited fuel, medicine, and equipment. Thousands of patients, including children and the elderly, are at risk due to the lack of functioning medical facilities.
Since the war began, Israel has killed tens of thousands of Palestinians, and much of Gaza has been reduced to rubble. Displacement, hunger, and disease have spread rapidly, as aid deliveries remain severely restricted.
