Rabat – Zinedine Zidane stated at the Trento Sport Festival that coaching the French national team is one of his top goals.

The former Real Madrid manager recently spoke about his time in football, his approach to coaching, and his passion for the sport, confirming his plan to return to management.

The World Cup winner has been away from coaching for four years, but has expressed interest in coaching France. “I will definitely return,” he told the press, making it clear that managing the national team is something he wants.

Zidane stepped down from Real Madrid after the 2020–21 season. During his time there, he won three straight Champions League titles from 2016 to 2018, making him the only manager to do so. He also won two UEFA Super Cups, two FIFA Club World Cups, and two LaLiga trophies.

Zidane left Madrid in 2018, then came back in 2019 for a second spell. Across both periods, he won 172 of 263 matches, with his teams scoring 596 goals.

With Didier Deschamps’ departure from his role as France’s coach after the 2026 World Cup. The former Real Madrid legend is seen as a top candidate to take over.

Over the past four years, Zidane has rejected many offers from clubs like Bayern Munich and the US national team. Though he’s ready to return, he hasn’t decided where yet.

When asked about coaching Juventus, he said, “I don’t know. It hasn’t happened in the past; I made other choices. Juventus is always close to my heart. They gave me so much when I first got there.”

He continued: “In terms of the future, I don’t know. My feeling is that I want to be able to coach the national team in the future, even though I don’t mean right now. I would like to one day, but we’ll see.”

Zidane is considered to be one of the greatest footballers of all time with a decorated career. He won the FIFA World Cup in 1998 against Brazil after scoring twice in the final, and also helped France win the UEFA Euro in 2000.

At the club level, Zidan played for Juventus and Real Madrid. With Real Madrid, he won the UEFA Champions League in 2002 and scored in the final and the LaLiga title in 2003, before later retiring in 2006 with the club.
