Rabat – Tangier Med Port has maintained its position as the central gateway for Moroccans residing abroad during “Operation Marhaba” – a Moroccan annual initiative that facilitates the transit of diaspora during the summer season.
Today, Minister of Transport Abdessamad Kayouh chaired a meeting to discuss and assess “Operation Marhaba” 2025.
During the meeting, the minister described this year’s operation as “successful,” commending coordination between all stakeholders as well as bilateral coordination with transit countries.
During the meeting, officials said that Morocco recorded the passage of over 3.2 million passengers and nearly 739,000 vehicles through Moroccan ports from June 10 to September 15. The number marks an increase of 7% in passengers and 6% in vehicles compared to last year.
Tanger Med Port registered around 1.8 million passengers and over 463,000 vehicles. The number accounts for 56% of total passenger traffic and 63% of total vehicle traffic.
Tanger Ville Port also recorded a strong growth, with 751,000 passengers and 117,000 vehicles.
Nador port handled approximately 617,000 passengers and 148,000 vehicles, representing 19% of passenger traffic.
Al Hoceima Port witnessed the transit of over 48,000 passengers and around 11,000 vehicles.
“Over the years, Operation Marhaba has established itself as a model of management for one of the largest organized transit movements in the Mediterranean,” Kayouh told the press today.
He said Morocco’s measures to ensure the smooth running of the Marhaba operation this year include the provision of diversified maritime services that cover 13 routes. The roadmap connects eight Moroccan passenger ports to nine European ports, including Algeciras, Tarifa, Almeria, Motril, Sete, Barcelona, and Marseille, among others.
Morocco also mobilized 29 vessels belonging to diverse maritime companies
Kayouh also commended the efforts made by the Mohammed V Foundation for Solidarity as well as the Interior Ministry, in addition to other authorities like Customs administration, the national police, and the Royal Gendarmerie.
He also called on all stakeholders to continue “along this path of responsibility and cooperation” for a smooth “Operation Marhaba” 2026.
