Rabat – Morocco’s Foreign Minister, Nasser Bourita, met on Tuesday in Dakar with Senegalese President Bassirou Diomaye Faye. The meeting took place on the sidelines of the “Invest In Senegal” forum.
In the meeting, Bourita conveyed the King’s greetings to the Senegalese President. During the discussion, Bourita also reaffirmed Morocco’s commitment to deepening the already strong and multidimensional strategic partnership between the two countries.
President Faye, in turn, conveyed to Bourita Senegal’s determination to work with Morocco to make the two countries’ partnership a model of regional cooperation and development.
During his trip to Dakar, Bourita also met with Senegalese Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko, with the discussions focusing on the partnership between the two countries.
Senegal and Morocco share strong cooperation and bilateral ties. Senegal is part of the African network that backs Morocco’s territorial integrity and sovereignty over its southern provinces in Western Sahara.
Dakar opened its consulate general in Dakhla in 2021, reflecting the country’s constant support for Morocco’s territorial integrity.
Senegal is also among Morocco’s trading partners. Moroccan exports to the West African country reached MAD 2.8 billion in 2022, up slightly from MAD 2.7 million.
Bourita’s visit to Dakar comes a month after a notable telephone conversation with Senegalese counterpart, Cheikh Niang. The two ministers discussed the “unique” bilateral ties between the two countries, founded on a shared history and deep human relations.
The two officials also reaffirmed their commitment to working to strengthen ties, in line with the two countries’ leaders’ vision.
