Moroccan urban areas recorded 2,184 traffic accidents between June 22 and June 28, resulting in 42 fatalities and 2,990 injuries, including 131 serious cases, according to the General Directorate of National Security.
The security authority stated that the leading causes of these accidents included driver inattention, failure to yield the right of way, excessive speed, pedestrian inattention, failure to maintain a safe following distance, loss of vehicle control, changing direction without signaling, illegal turns, failure to stop at stop signs, driving against traffic, driving on the left side of the road, running red lights, driving under the influence of alcohol, and dangerous overtaking.
As part of traffic enforcement operations, police services recorded 52,464 traffic violations, prepared 8,411 reports submitted to the Public Prosecution, and collected 44,053 on-the-spot fines.
The total value of the collected fines reached 9,526,500 Moroccan dirhams. Authorities also reported that 5,636 vehicles were impounded, 8,411 official documents were confiscated, and 619 vehicles were temporarily immobilized.
