A widespread heatwave is expected to continue affecting large parts of Morocco over the coming days, with temperatures forecast to reach as high as 47°C in several provinces before gradually easing across the northern regions starting on Monday, according to the latest forecasts issued by the General Directorate of Meteorology.
In an updated orange-level weather alert, the meteorological authority said that the southern, southeastern and several central provinces will remain under the influence of a hot air mass. Maximum temperatures are expected to range between 45°C and 47°C in some areas and between 42°C and 45°C in others, while coastal areas and the Atlas Mountains will experience comparatively milder conditions.
Alongside the intense heat, the weather service warned of locally heavy thunderstorms that could be accompanied by hail and strong wind gusts, particularly across several southern and eastern provinces. Residents in the affected areas have been advised to remain vigilant, especially during the afternoon and evening hours.
El Houssine Youabed, Head of Communication at the General Directorate of Meteorology, stated that the hot air mass will continue to dominate most inland and southern regions throughout the weekend, while thunderstorms are expected to develop over the Atlas Mountains, the southeast and the eastern parts of the country. He added that temperatures are expected to gradually decline across northern Morocco from Monday onward, although hot to very hot conditions will persist across inland and southern regions.
