Finland has joined the European debate surrounding the recent migration wave toward the city of Ceuta, announcing its support for Italy’s proposal to exclude Spain from the Schengen Area.
The Finnish Interior Minister stated that protecting the external borders is a fundamental requirement for maintaining membership in the Schengen Area, arguing that the events witnessed in Ceuta reflect shortcomings in Spain’s border management.
Helsinki also called on other European Union member states to support the Italian initiative, as discussions continue across Europe over migration policies and measures aimed at strengthening the security of the bloc’s external borders.
