Morocco’s General Directorate of Meteorology has issued an updated orange-level weather alert warning of a heatwave, very high temperatures, strong winds and localized sandstorms affecting several regions of the country from Tuesday through Friday.
According to the weather service, temperatures between 44°C and 46°C are expected from Tuesday to Thursday in the provinces of Zagora, Tata, Assa-Zag, Boujdour, Es-Semara, Aousserd and Oued Eddahab. From Wednesday to Friday, temperatures ranging from 41°C to 44°C are forecast in Kénitra, Taounate, Meknes, Fez, Moulay Yacoub, Khémisset, Sidi Kacem, Sidi Slimane, Khouribga, Fquih Ben Salah, Settat, Youssoufia, Rehamna, Kelaa des Sraghna, Chichaoua, Marrakech and Taroudant.
The forecast also indicates temperatures between 38°C and 41°C in Larache, Salé, Rabat, Skhirat-Témara, Nouaceur, Casablanca, Mohammedia, Berrechid, Benslimane, Mediouna, El Jadida, Sidi Bennour, Essaouira, Safi, Ouezzane, Khénifra and Beni Mellal.
In addition, hot weather with temperatures ranging from 39°C to 43°C is expected on Tuesday in Agadir Ida-Outanane, Inezgane-Aït Melloul, Chtouka-Aït Baha, Tiznit, Sidi Ifni, Guelmim, Tan-Tan, Tarfaya, Laayoune, as well as Sidi Kacem, Taounate, Fquih Ben Salah, Marrakech, Khémisset, Kelaa des Sraghna, Moulay Yacoub, Settat and Rehamna.
The meteorological authority also forecasts strong wind gusts reaching between 75 and 80 km/h, accompanied by localized sandstorms, in the provinces of Aousserd, Oued Eddahab, Boujdour, Laayoune and Es-Semara from midday until 11:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
