The city of Tetouan officially inaugurated and launched the Regional Specialties Hospital on Friday, June 5, 2026, during a ceremony attended by Minister of Health and Social Protection Amine Tahraoui, Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima Regional Governor Younes Tazi, as well as several local officials and institutional representatives.
The opening of the new healthcare facility is part of ongoing efforts to strengthen medical infrastructure in the Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima region and improve access to specialized healthcare services, in line with broader reforms taking place within Morocco’s national health system.
The hospital was built on a total area of approximately 32,700 square meters and has a capacity of 380 beds. The project required an investment exceeding 805 million Moroccan dirhams and is expected to serve more than 1.5 million residents of Tetouan Province and surrounding areas.
The facility includes a wide range of medical and surgical specialties, including general surgery, neurosurgery, pediatric surgery, orthopedic surgery, cardiology, nephrology and dialysis services, as well as intensive care, anesthesia, advanced diagnostic and medical imaging units.
The hospital is also equipped with 11 operating rooms, a 15-bed intensive care unit, an emergency department with the same capacity, specialized laboratories, and a pharmacy featuring an automated system for medication management and distribution.
According to the information presented during the inauguration, the new hospital is expected to improve access to specialized healthcare, ease pressure on existing medical facilities in the region, and contribute to enhancing the quality of healthcare services available to residents.
