Officers from the anti-gang unit of the Fez Police Department were compelled on Wednesday, May 13, to use both a service weapon and a TASER device during a security intervention involving a 35-year-old man with a criminal record, who was allegedly threatening citizens and police officers with bladed weapons while in an advanced state of intoxication.
According to available information, the command and coordination center of the Fez Police received a report concerning an individual carrying two knives and causing disturbance in a public area while behaving aggressively.
A nearby police patrol intervened in an attempt to arrest the suspect, however, he reportedly refused to comply with police instructions and resisted officers using the bladed weapons.
Authorities stated that police officers first fired warning shots before injuring the suspect in the lower limbs, while the continuation of the threat led officers to use a TASER device in order to neutralize the danger and gain control of the situation.
The intervention reportedly helped prevent harm to citizens and police officers involved in the operation, while ensuring the successful arrest of the suspect.
The individual was transferred to a hospital to receive necessary medical treatment and remains under medical supervision pending a judicial investigation ordered by the competent public prosecutor’s office to determine the full circumstances of the incident.
