The ministerial segment of the Conference of African Ministers of Finance, Planning and Economic Development opened yesterday Thursday in Tangier, bringing together ministers, government officials, and experts from across the continent, as part of the fifty-eighth session of the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa.
Held under the theme “Growth through innovation: leveraging data and advanced technologies for Africa’s economic transformation,” the conference served as a platform to discuss pathways toward inclusive and sustainable growth driven by innovation and digital transformation.
During the event, participants highlighted the importance of strengthening cooperation among African countries and investing in digital infrastructure to enhance economic competitiveness and integration into the global economy.
Discussions also focused on the role of technological advancements, including artificial intelligence and data systems, in boosting productivity and supporting structural economic transformation.
The conference follows earlier expert meetings and side events, and is expected to produce recommendations related to digital sovereignty, data governance, and innovation-driven economic growth.
