Barcelona have confirmed that young midfielder Marc Bernal has signed a new contract keeping him at the club until June 2029.
“FC Barcelona and the player Marc Bernal have reached an agreement for the extension of the player’s contract until June 2029,” the club said in a statement.
The deal was signed on Monday morning at the club’s offices, with president Joan Laporta, vice-president Rafael Yuste and sporting director Deco in attendance.
Bernal, one of La Masia’s brightest prospects, broke into the first team last season after impressing coach Hansi Flick during pre-season.
Just three matches into the campaign, however, the teenager suffered an ACL injury that ruled him out for over a year.
Barcelona had already agreed to extend his contract once he turned 18, and the renewal has now been made official.
Bernal recently made his return from injury in a brief appearance against Valencia. The club is easing him back carefully, with expectations that he will play a bigger part in Flick’s plans as the season progresses.
