Morocco issues strong statement, reaffirming Autonomy Plan under its sovereignty, the ONLY Solution – The North Africa Post

The Autonomy Plan offered by Morocco for the Sahara under its sovereignty is the ONLY realistic and feasible solution to this regional dispute, said on Tuesday Head of Govt. Aziz Akhannouch in New York at the 80th session of the UN General Assembly.

Akhannouch, who delivered Morocco’s address, highlighted the international dynamic spurred by King Mohammed VI in support of Morocco’s autonomy plan and sovereignty over its Sahara.

The overwhelming majority of countries around the world laud the autonomy plan presented by Morocco as the only pragmatic and credible basis for reaching a definitive solution to this decades-long conflict.

The growing international recognition of the Moroccan plan means that it is high time to turn the page on this artificial conflict with full respect for the national sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Kingdom, said the Prime Minister.

He also highlighted the socio-economic progress the southern provinces are witnessing thanks to the new development model and the Royal Atlantic initiatives, noting that this region is now establishing itself as a strategic hub of peace, security and co-development.

Akhannouch has also reaffirmed Morocco’s full support for the efforts of the UN Secretary-General and his personal Envoy to find a definitive solution to the Sahara issue.
