King Mohammed VI Orders Comprehensive Fatwa on Zakat Rules

Rabat –  King Mohammed VI, the “Commander of the Faithful,” has directed the Supreme Council of Ulemas to issue a detailed fatwa to clarify Zakat obligations under Islamic law, according to an official statement from the Council.

The fatwa aims to guide citizens on questions surrounding Zakat, particularly regarding new forms of income in today’s economy.

These include salaries, professional services, investments, and financial transactions. The Council will also provide clear instructions on minimum thresholds, amounts, and payment deadlines.

“In execution of the Order of Amir Al Mouminine, may God preserve Him, the body responsible for fatwas will examine the matter with the support of experts if necessary,” the Council stated. “The Council will make the fatwa public within one month.”

To ensure continued guidance, the Council plans to launch an online platform where citizens can submit Zakat-related questions and receive authoritative responses.

The decision notes that the King follows the example of the Prophet Muhammad in fulfilling the duty of religious guidance. “As the Prophet said, ‘Ala hal ballaght, Ala hal ballaght’ – I have conveyed, I have conveyed,” the statement reads.

This initiative also coincides with celebrations marking the 1,500th anniversary of the Prophet’s birth.

The statement concluded with a prayer for the King’s protection and for God to answer the supplications of those who seek Him.
