King Mohammed VI, accompanied by Crown Prince Moulay El Hassan, Prince Moulay Rachid and Prince Moulay Ahmed, chaired, on Thursday, a religious ceremony in commemoration of Eid  Al-Mawlid Annabawi today at the Hassan Mosque in Rabat.

During the religious ceremony, Minister of Islamic Affairs Ahmed Toufiq gave an address before the King on the activities of the Supreme Council of Ulema and local Ulema Councils, before handing over to the monarch  the report relating to said activities.

In his address, the minister said that the celebration of Eid Al Mawlid coincides with the commemoration of the 15th-century anniversary of the birth of the Prophet Mohammed, noting that the King has instructed the Supreme Council of Ulema to celebrate this year by emphasizing both the life (Sira Annabawiya) and the message of the Prophet.

In this regard, he affirmed that the religious guidance provided in Morocco, at the initiative of the Ulema, is a project aiming to enshrine lofty universal values. He added that the Ulema believe that fulfilling the conditions of “Tabligh” (propagation), under the enlightened leadership of the Commander of the Faithful, is an ideal opportunity to put forward a global model of understanding inspired by the way of the Prophet.

In this context, Toufiq recalled an unprecedented high-level meeting, held earlier this year by the Supreme Council of Ulema with a host of major development actors, to address, through their research, the question of the extent to which development needs the guidance provided by the Quran.

This meeting, he continued, was an opportunity to engage in dialogue on a central issue to all : leading a happy life according to Divine Law.

Then, the King handed the Mohammed VI Award of Thought and Islamic Studies (Award of Merit and Honor) to Abbas Rhila from Marrakech.

This award rewards outstanding scientific figures and encourages them to carry out research in Islamic studies, in accordance with the teachings of the noble Shariah, which advocates the search for knowledge and urges them to make good use of it.

Hassan Bakkour, from Syria, greeted King Mohammed VI during the ceremony and received f the Mohammed VI International Award of memorization, declamation, and exegesis of Quran.

The monarch also presented the Mohammed VI international Award of Quran psalmody with memorization of five Hizbs to Ayoub Alla from Sale.

The King also presented the Mohammed VI Award in Moroccan calligraphic art (Excellence Award) to Jaouad Ettaybi and El Mostapha Ajdi from Sale.

Afterwards, the King handed the Mohammed VI Award of Moroccan decorative art on paper (Honorary Award) to Abdelilah Laabiss (Meknes) and the Mohammed VI Award of the Moroccan decorative art on paper (Excellence Award) to Badr Dhrif (Fez).

The Mohammed VI Award of Arabic graphic design [Al Horoufia] (Honorary Award) went to Mohamed El Bandouri (Marrakech).

Head of Government Aziz Akhannouch attended the religious ceremony along with other high-level officials, including the speakers of the two Houses of Parliament, advisors to the King, members of government, presidents of constitutional bodies, senior officers of the General Staff of the Royal Armed Forces, members of the Islamic diplomatic corps accredited to Rabat, as well as by several Ulema and other civil and military dignitaries.
