Rabat – The Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) held a special ceremony on Thursday at the Mohammed VI Football Complex to honor former Atlas Lions.

The national players honored included Mohamed Timoumi, Abdeslam Laghrissi, Abdelkarim Hadrioui, Abderrazak Khairi, Idriss Waddich, Lahcen Anafalous, Hamdi Lanmati, Hammou El Fadili, Lahcen El Weddani, Abdelghani El Othmani, and Mahjoub El Ghazouani.

Hamdi Lanmati, Saad Dahan, Mourad Hdioued, were also honored, as well as Khalid Labied, Mustapha Bidodane,  Said Chiba, and Mustapha Mahrous, among several others who wore the national team jersey.

Current Moroccan football stars, including Achraf Hakimi and Yassine Bounou, attended the ceremony and posed for photos with the celebrated former icons.

FRMF said the event “allowed for a genuine intergenerational exchange” within Morocco’s football family.

“Yesterday’s iconic figures, who left their mark on the history of the sport, came together with today’s generation, driven by the desire to continue the journey and honor the national flag in various continental and international competitions,” FRM said.

The ceremony took place on the sidelines of the preparatory campaign for the Morocco-Niger World Cup 2026 qualifier game, which will take place tomorrow at 8 p.m. Moroccan time.

Last year, FRMF also held a ceremony to commemorate former international football players from Morocco’s eastern region, including Mohamed El Filali, Kamal Smiri, Rachid Nekrouz, and Yahia El Harasse, among others.
