Rabat — A devastating traffic collision killed five people and injured seven others on Sunday morning, on the road connecting Sidi Bennour and Oulad Amran in Morocco’s Sidi Bennour province, near Casablanca.

Le360 reported that the seven injured victims are all in the same family, and that four victims died at the crash site, while the fifth died later at El Jadida Provincial Hospital, according to a statement from the director of Sidi Bennour Provincial Hospital Mohamed Riad.

Medical teams transferred two people with critical injuries to El Jadida hospital, while the remaining five received emergency treatment.

According to local sources, two vehicles were involved in the tragic accident.

The impact killed four people instantly. The crash also injured occupants of a tractor and a pickup truck, causing varying degrees of harm.

Royal Gendarmerie officers arrived at the scene immediately after learning of the accident. They launched a comprehensive investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash.

Initial findings suggest the cause may stem from a driving error or loss of vehicle control, though investigators continue their work under supervision of the competent public prosecutor’s office.

The tragic incident has shaken the local community in Sidi Bennour province as authorities work to determine the exact cause of this deadly collision.

Last Thursday, eight people died in a severe road accident that took place on the national road linking Taroudant and Agadir.

Official data indicate that traffic accidents claimed the lives of more than 4,000 people in 2024, while serious injuries surpassed 10,000 and overall accidents exceeded 143,000 cases.

The first five months of 2025 recorded over 1,600 deaths, an increase of nearly 21% compared to the previous year.

Pedestrians and motorcyclists remain the most vulnerable, together representing close to 70% of the victims.
