Morocco is a great footballing country, and its third title at the African Nations Championship (CHAN 2024) confirms its status as the best team, said FIFA President Gianni Infantino on Saturday in Nairobi.

“I am very happy for Morocco, which won its third CHAN title and showed that it fully deserves the trophy,” he said following the CHAN final won by the Moroccan team against Madagascar (3-2) at the Moi International Sports Centre in Kasarani, Nairobi.

“It wasn’t easy to win this match. It was a tough game, a real, real final,” noted the FIFA President, adding that Morocco fully deserved the final and truly demonstrated that it was the best team in the CHAN.

Infantino also praised the enthusiasm of the crowd, which reflects the growth of football on the continent, expressing his great happiness for Africa, for Morocco, and for FIFA.

Kenya’s President William Ruto, who presented Morocco players with the CHAN trophy, has congratulated Morocco on their victory in the CHAN 2024.

In his statement, sent shortly after the winners were crowned, President Ruto stated that the North Africans deserved the win after a remarkable run that landed them in the finals for a record third time.

“Congratulations, Morocco, on winning the CHAN 2024 Championship. This is a well-earned victory,” he stated.

He further hailed the championships for fostering unity among football fans across the country and the continent, especially the nations that qualified for this year’s face-off.

The three co-hosts, Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania, have picked important lessons that will be vital for the three nations as they prepare to again host the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2027, another continental event, he said.

“We take to heart the lessons of co-hosting this tournament, and we will use them to sharpen our preparation for AFCON 2027,” he stated.

The Chairperson of the African Union (AU) Commission, Mahmoud Ali Youssouf, also congratulated Morocco on the continental triumph.

In a statement published by the pan-African organization and shared on its social media accounts, Ali Youssouf hailed the victory as “a proud moment for Morocco and for African football.”

The high-ranking African official also praised the tournament for showcasing Africa’s unity and talent, and applauded all participating teams for their passion and resilience. He also commended Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda for their joint hosting, calling it a “model of regional partnership.”

Ali Youssouf paid tribute to Sudan for reaching the semi-finals despite the country’s challenges, describing the team’s performance as “a beacon of hope.”

Reaffirming the AU’s support, the Chairperson said sport is an important part of culture and diplomacy, and remains a powerful driver of peace, unity, and international cooperation.

Atlas Lions made history as the only team to have lifted the CHAN trophy three times, in 2018, 2020, and 2025.
