Morocco’s Women’s Futsal Team Makes a Huge Jump

    adminAugust 29, 2025

The Moroccan women’s futsal team has made history. After winning the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations on home ground, the Lionesses of the Atlas have jumped 16 places in the latest FIFA world rankings.

The update was released just a few months ahead of the first Women’s Futsal World Cup, taking place this November in the Philippines. Brazil remain number one, but the rankings will help determine seedings for the tournament draw on 15 September.

FIFA said Morocco played 15 matches during the ranking period – more than any other women’s futsal team. Their efforts paid off with a rise from 47th to 31st after winning the African Cup of Nations, which also served as Africa’s qualifier for the World Cup.

Since the last rankings in April, teams worldwide have played 95 matches, bringing the total number of women’s futsal internationals in 2025 to 206. Morocco not only became African champions but also one of the fastest-improving teams globally.
