The world football governing body is in advanced discussions for installing the headquarters of the 2030 World Cup in the Moroccan capital Rabat, according to British “City AM” business news platform.
The FIFA world Cup 2030 will be co-hosted by Morocco, Spain and Portugal, with the opening three games to be held in Paraguay, Argentina and Uruguay in a nod to the competition’s roots.
The 2026 World Cup is being run from FIFA’s office in Miami, and the Moroccan Football Federation is understood to have been lobbying the world governing body to move its tournament administration to Rabat for the four-year cycle culminating in the 2030 tournament.
Last month, FIFA opened its first permanent African office in Rabat at the Mohammed VI Football Complex, with further talks planned in the next few weeks.
Rabat’s Grand Theater is also being considered as a potential venue for the 2030 World Cup draw, along with the WiZink Center in Madrid and the MEO Arena in Lisbon.
Morocco is boosting its Nation Brand and sporting status by hosting the Africa Cup of Nations later this year and building the world’s largest football stadium.
