Police Officer Shoots Suspect in Rissani Domestic Violence Case

Rabat — A police officer shot and wounded a 28-year-old repeat offender on Friday after the man threatened officers and civilians with a knife during a domestic violence call.

The incident began when a woman called police, saying her husband had beaten and held her against her will at their home in Rissani province. Officers rushed to the scene to arrest the suspect.

The man fought back with a knife when police tried to arrest him, security sources said. The officer first fired warning shots, then shot the suspect in the legs to stop him.

“This action neutralized the danger before the suspect could escape,” a police source told local media outlets.

Police discovered the wounded man was already wanted nationwide for drug trafficking and selling alcohol without a license.

Officers searched his house in the rural area of Ksar El-Batrouni and found 160 liters of fermented liquids used to make spirits, plus equipment and gas tanks for distilling alcohol.

Police arrested the suspect early Saturday morning and placed him in custody, pending further investigations to uncover all details of the case.

The shooting signals the dangers police face when responding to domestic violence calls, especially involving repeat offenders with violent histories.
