Rabat – A tragic incident struck Imouzzer on Thursday night when a 63-year-old man with apparent mental disorders fatally attacked a police officer who was directing traffic at a roundabout.

The assailant approached the officer suddenly and delivered a fatal blow with a knife.

The fatally wounded police officer was taken to the hospital but did not survive his injuries.

Police forces on the scene quickly arrested the suspect and seized the weapon. Available information shows that the man lived in a state of wandering and had previously been treated in psychiatric institutions, with his last hospitalization recorded in December 2024.

The judicial police have opened an investigation under the supervision of the competent prosecutor to establish the exact circumstances and reasons behind the attack.

As a gesture of recognition, the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN) granted the fallen officer a posthumous promotion to the rank of officer.

The Mohammed VI Foundation for the Social Works of Police Staff and central services have been instructed to cover funeral arrangements and provide full support to his family.

The loss of the officer has sent shockwaves through the Imouzzer community and the police force.

Authorities have vowed to ensure justice while providing full support to the family of the fallen officer, honoring his service and sacrifice in the line of duty.
