UAE reaffirms backing for Sudan peace efforts amid ongoing diplomatic rift – The North Africa Post

The United Arab Emirates has reiterated its commitment to supporting peace, stability, and humanitarian relief in Sudan, despite ongoing tensions with Khartoum.

The Emirati Foreign Ministry underscored, in a statement released on Sunday, its “unwavering commitment” to work with international partners to foster dialogue, mobilize global support, and address Sudan’s humanitarian crisis. It emphasized solidarity with the Sudanese people in their quest for a “dignified future” and pledged continued engagement in peace initiatives aimed at ending the country’s conflict.

The UAE also rejected what it called “unfounded accusations and deliberate propaganda” from Sudan’s government, which cut diplomatic ties with Abu Dhabi in May after the International Court of Justice dismissed Sudan’s genocide complaint over alleged Emirati support for the Rapid Support Forces — an allegation the UAE has repeatedly denied.

Sudan’s war between the national army and the RSF, ongoing since April 2023, has claimed over 20,000 lives according to UN figures, though some US-based research centers puts the toll closer to 130,000, with 14 million people displaced.
