FIFA President Gianni Infantino has praised Morocco’s growing stature in global football, calling the country a “pillar of excellence” in the sport, during his visit to M’diq where he attended the Throne Day celebrations hosted by King Mohammed VI.

Speaking on the sidelines of the royal reception, Infantino commended Morocco’s “exceptional infrastructure achievements” and its strategic vision under the King’s leadership. “Morocco’s vision to promote football excellence at the global level is extraordinary,” he said.

The FIFA chief highlighted Morocco’s upcoming role as co-host of the 2030 FIFA World Cup alongside Spain and Portugal, and its commitment to hosting the next five editions of the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup. He also noted the recent opening of the FIFA Africa Office in Rabat, based at the Mohammed VI Football Complex, which he described as a hub that will have a “global impact on football”

Infantino paid tribute to the Moroccan women’s national team, which recently impressed at the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations and had previously competed in the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup. “His Majesty’s support for women’s football is unwavering,” Infantino said, after the King personally welcomed the squad during the celebrations.

“Football is deeply embedded in Moroccan culture,” Infantino added. “From infrastructure to talent development, Morocco is setting a global standard.”
