The upcoming meeting of the Morocco-EU joint Parliamentary Committee is scheduled in Rabat by the end of October. The announcement was made by the Committee co-chairs, Lahcen Haddad and Ruggero Razza, following videoconference talks.

In a joint press release, the Committee’s Co-Chairs underlined the timeliness of the planned meeting as it would follow shortly after the launch of the new EU Pact for the Mediterranean.

This ambitious proposal aims to strengthen cooperation between the EU and the Southern partners. It focuses on fostering shared interests and mutual benefits to deliver a more stable, prosperous, and interconnected region.

The two co-chairs discussed the potential draft agenda of the Rabat meeting. Important topics that should feature prominently include the Pact for the Mediterranean, sustainable development, energy, and investment, as well as regional security, environment, migration, and the geopolitical situation south of the Mediterranean.

They also affirmed their willingness to build a shared vision for prosperity underpinned by peace, security, and inclusive development.

In June, European Commissioner for the Mediterranean Dubravka Šuica described Morocco as “a key and reliable partner of the European Union.”

“We share a unique relationship and a common goal to deepen our Partnership”, said the European Commissioner in her X account following telephone conversation with Moroccan FM Nasser Bourita.

She said they talked about Morocco’s engagement on the New Pact for the Mediterranean.

The EU has extensive ties with Morocco in trade, political and security matters. Morocco plays a key role in the fight against illegal migration and terrorism. Their strategic partnership, which is based on solid foundations of shared values, is a model of the European Neighborhood Policy.
