Police in Marrakech Arrest Algerian-French Subject to Interpol Warrant

Rabat – Police in Marrakech arrested this week a French national of Algerian origin wanted by the international community based on an arrest warrant issued by France.

A security source said the 44-year-old man was identified through a check in the Interpol database. He was under a red notice for his alleged involvement with an international drug trafficking network.

Initial findings show that the suspect is allegedly involved in organizing international drug trafficking operations to southern France between 2020 and 2021.

The suspect is in custody for further investigations into the case.

Meanwhile, police in Morocco notified the French judiciary of the suspect’s arrest.

The arrest is part of an international security cooperation and partnership, with Morocco committed to cooperating with partners against cross-border criminal activity.

The North African country has made a series of similar arrests part of its cooperation with Interpol.

One of the latest operations was in June, when security services arrested two British nationals subject to arrest warrants issued by the UK.

The first suspect is allegedly involved in a case of voluntary manslaughter, while the second suspect was wanted for charges related to failure to appear in court and violations of parole conditions.

Interpol and international partners have long emphasized the importance of Morocco’s security approach.

In May,  Interpol President Ahmed Nasser Al Raisi emphasized Morocco’s security approach, describing it as efficient, professional, and committed to human rights.

He also commended King Mohammed VI’s efforts and determination to consistently give special care and attention to bolstering security efforts locally and on regional and international levels
