Rabat — Morocco’s women’s national team delivered a compelling performance to defeat DR Congo 4-2, in their second game as part of the 2025 WAFCON group stage.

The match began with Congo asserting early dominance, as Paris Saint-Germain star Merveille Kanginga gave her team the lead in the 6th minute.

The early goal put the Congolese side in control and left Morocco facing an uphill battle.

However, the Atlas Lionesses quickly regained their composure and began to impose their rhythm as the game wore on.

Their persistence paid off in the 25th minute when a well-coordinated attacking sequence resulted in the equalizer.

Ibtissam Jraidi provided the crucial assist, delivering a perfectly weighted pass to teammate Ghizlane Chebak, who confidently converted the opportunity to restore parity.

Chebbak’s impact on the match extended beyond just the equalizer, as she continued her impressive display.

Chebbak capitalized on an intelligent pass inside the penalty area to score Morocco’s second goal in the 43rd minute.

This strike gave the Atlas Lionesses a deserved lead heading into halftime, reflecting their superior performance throughout the latter stages of the first half.

The match carried significant implications for both teams’ aspirations for the continental tournament.

Morocco entered the second half determined to secure all three points and reconnect with their supporters following a disappointing opening draw against Zambia.

Chebbak tripled the score at minute 15th.

At minute 83rd, Mrabet turned a penalty kick into Morocco’s fourth goal, securing her teammates three points in this second game of the group round.

The result represents a crucial step forward for the host team as they seek to advance in the tournament.
