Weather Agency Urges Caution as Heatwave and Thunderstorms Affect Morocco

    ayaJune 23, 2026

Morocco’s General Directorate of Meteorology has urged citizens to remain cautious as high temperatures continue to affect several regions of the country, while thunderstorms and unstable weather conditions are expected in the coming days.

El Houssine Youabed, the agency’s communications officer, advised the public to avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight during peak daytime hours, particularly children, elderly people, and those working outdoors.

He also stressed the importance of staying hydrated and taking preventive measures to reduce the health impacts associated with extreme heat.

The meteorological authority further warned of possible thunderstorms in mountainous areas and regions located near valleys and waterways, where localized heavy rainfall, hail, and sudden water flows may occur.

Forecasts indicate that hot to very hot weather will persist across southeastern Morocco, the Oriental region, and parts of the southern provinces, while storm clouds may develop over the Atlas Mountains and nearby areas.

Moderate to strong winds, accompanied by dust and sand movement in some eastern and southern regions, are also expected. Temperatures may decline slightly during the coming days before rising again at the beginning of next week.
