Efforts to facilitate the return of Moroccan women stranded in northeastern Syria are continuing, following the successful repatriation of five women to Morocco in recent weeks, according to information shared by representatives of families involved in the issue.
Abdelaziz El Bakkali, General Coordinator of the Coordination of Families of Moroccan Detainees and Missing Persons in Iraq, said that work is currently underway to complete the administrative procedures required for the return of additional Moroccan women who have left Al-Hol camp.
According to El Bakkali, the process is being carried out in coordination with the families concerned and the Moroccan Embassy in Damascus, which is assisting with legal and administrative arrangements related to their return.
He noted that the efforts extend beyond administrative procedures and also involve addressing social and humanitarian challenges, including housing, healthcare, and social support for those affected.
The coordinator stated that the case has seen positive developments in recent months, while emphasizing that some situations remain complex due to individual circumstances and humanitarian considerations.
He also highlighted the challenges associated with the Roj camp, where the local context and operational conditions make communication and coordination efforts more difficult.
El Bakkali called for continued efforts to facilitate the return of Moroccan women still present in the camps, in accordance with legal procedures and humanitarian considerations.
