Tangier strengthened its position as one of Morocco’s leading tourist destinations during the first quarter of 2026, recording more than 417,000 overnight stays, according to data released by the Tourism Observatory.
The figures show an annual increase of 11 percent compared with the same period last year, giving Tangier a 4 percent share of all tourist nights recorded nationwide. The city ranked fourth nationally, behind Marrakech, Agadir and Casablanca.
Hotels and classified tourist accommodation establishments in Tangier reported an average occupancy rate of 47 percent during the first three months of the year, slightly below the national average of 52 percent.
In March alone, the destination recorded approximately 133,000 overnight stays, representing a year-on-year increase of 26 percent, while the occupancy rate reached 41 percent.
Across the Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima region, total tourist overnight stays reached approximately 654,000 during the first quarter of 2026, marking a 2 percent increase compared with the same period in 2025.
Nationwide, Morocco recorded 9.85 million tourist overnight stays during the first quarter of the year, reflecting annual growth of 10 percent, including 7.8 million nights by international visitors and 2.1 million by domestic tourists.
