Morocco’s General Directorate of Meteorology has issued a new weather alert warning of an intense heatwave expected to affect several regions of the country between Wednesday, May 20, and Friday, May 22, 2026, with temperatures forecast to reach as high as 42 degrees Celsius in some areas.
According to the weather bulletin, temperatures ranging between 37 and 42 degrees are expected in several inland provinces, including Fez, Meknes, Marrakech, Beni Mellal, Khouribga, Chichaoua, and Taroudant, under an orange-level alert.
The heatwave is also expected to impact coastal and southwestern regions such as Agadir, Kenitra, Larache, Safi, Essaouira, Guelmim, and Tiznit, where high temperatures are forecast over the coming days.
Meanwhile, temperatures between 34 and 38 degrees Celsius are expected in coastal cities including Casablanca, Rabat, Salé, and El Jadida.
The meteorological authorities urged citizens to take precautionary measures by avoiding direct sun exposure during peak hours, drinking plenty of water, and paying special attention to vulnerable groups, particularly children and the elderly.
