Moroccan watermelon continues to strengthen its presence in European markets with the start of the 2025–2026 season, as export and marketing operations began several weeks ago amid expectations that shipments will continue until next summer.
According to professionals in the sector, Moroccan watermelon remains competitive against European and regional producers despite challenges related to climate conditions and agricultural production.
Exports initially started from the regions of Dakhla and Zagora, while production from Souss, Rhamna, Chichaoua, Safi, and parts of the Gharb region is expected to reinforce supply during the coming weeks due to differences in harvest periods between regions.
Sector observers expect Moroccan watermelon marketing in Europe to continue until August, although export volumes have not yet reached their usual levels because of heavy rainfall, cold weather, and floods that affected crop growth, especially since watermelon cultivation requires high temperatures for optimal production.
