Security and customs services at Tangier Med Port foiled, on Friday morning May 8, an attempt to smuggle 570 kilograms of hashish concealed inside an international transport truck bearing Moroccan registration plates.
According to available information, border inspection and control operations carried out by security and customs officers at the port led to the discovery of the drug shipment carefully hidden inside the trailer’s cargo in an apparent attempt to evade inspection procedures.
Investigations conducted as part of the case resulted in the arrest of the truck driver, a 45-year-old Moroccan national, who is suspected of being linked to the smuggling operation.
The suspect has been placed under judicial investigation conducted by the judicial police unit at Tangier Med Port under the supervision of the competent public prosecutor’s office, in order to identify any additional individuals potentially involved and determine the possible national and international connections related to the case.
