The National Agency for Water and Forests reaffirmed its commitment to protecting cedar forests, considered a strategic national resource, following the circulation of information about alleged damage in mountainous areas.
In an official statement, the agency said it immediately launched field investigations through regional teams and specialized committees to verify the reported information and assess the situation accurately.
Findings showed that part of the circulating content relates to incidents recorded in 2025, which had already been addressed through legal procedures in accordance with existing regulations.
Regarding recent developments, field inspections identified only two limited cases, one involving the illegal cutting of a single cedar tree, and another concerning a tree that had fallen due to natural causes, including recent weather conditions.
The agency stressed that these cases do not represent a widespread phenomenon, noting that the geographical nature of the areas makes monitoring more challenging, especially during harsh weather conditions.
It also confirmed the continuation of monitoring efforts and coordination with local authorities to protect forest resources.
The agency concluded by calling for responsible handling of environmental information, within the framework of the Morocco Forests Strategy 2020 2030 aimed at sustainable management.
