The Faculty of Legal, Economic and Social Sciences at Mohammed I University in Oujda hosted a scientific conference on the role of the press in combating corruption, as part of a partnership with the National Authority for Probity, Prevention and Fight against Corruption.
During the event, the authority’s president, Mohamed Benalilou, highlighted the importance of investigative journalism and data journalism in tracking and exposing corruption cases, describing them as valuable sources of information supporting investigative efforts.
He also warned against the risks of media sensationalism and the normalization of corruption-related narratives, particularly in the context of the growing use of social media and the difficulty of distinguishing between professional journalism and unreliable content.
He noted that the authority is working to strengthen journalists’ capacities through training programs, including sessions on investigative and data journalism, with more planned in the future.
The conference saw active participation from students and journalists, emphasizing the key role of the press in promoting transparency and the need for a supportive legal, economic, and professional environment.
