Rabat – King Mohammed VI, accompanied by Crown Prince Moulay Hassan and Prince Moulay Rachid, presided over the opening of the first session of the fifth legislative year of Morocco’s 11th Parliament on Friday.
During the session, the King received Rachid Talbi Alami, President of the House of Representatives, who presented the King with the results of the House’s work for the 2024-2025 legislative year.
He also received Mohamed Ould Errachid, President of the House of Councillors, who shared the Council’s achievements over the same period. These meetings allowed the King to review the progress of Morocco’s parliamentary work and ongoing legislative efforts.
King Mohammed VI also met with Mustapha Baitas, Minister Delegate to the Head of Government in charge of Relations with Parliament and government spokesperson, who provided a report on the government’s collaboration with Parliament during the fourth legislative year.
Following the King’s speech, Talbi Alami said it addressed key issues, including the importance of cooperation between the majority and opposition in Parliament on major national projects and strategic plans.
“The King emphasized that there should be no conflict or competition between major national projects and social programs,” Talbi Alami said. “Both should work together to form a complete picture of sustainable development, in line with the King’s wise vision.”
During his speech, the King stressed social justice, reducing regional disparities, and the need to mobilize all national resources to support development programs, particularly in vulnerable regions.
“There should be no inconsistency or competition between national flagship projects, on the one hand, and social programs, on the other, since the goal is to achieve the country’s development and improve the living conditions of citizens, wherever they may be,” the monarch said in his speech.
He also spoke about the importance of keeping citizens informed about government initiatives and safeguarding their rights and freedoms.
The King said “special attention should be given to accompanying citizens, and shedding light on initiatives taken by public authorities as well as the various laws adopted and the decisions made, especially those relating directly to the rights and freedoms of citizens.”
At the end of his speech, King Mohammed VI concluded by calling for collective responsibility, integrity, and dedication from all parliamentarians and government officials. He reminded them to prioritize the national interest and mobilize all efforts to meet the challenges of the coming year.
