Hamas Ready to Release Israeli Captives in Exchange for Israeli Withdrawal from Gaza

Rabat – Hamas has announced that it is ready to release all Israeli captives, both living and deceased, if Israel ends its genocide in Gaza and withdraws its forces from the territory.

The move would follow the exchange plan outlined in US President Donald Trump’s proposal.

“In this context, the movement affirms its readiness to immediately enter into negotiations through the mediators to discuss the details of this agreement,” Hamas said in a statement posted on Telegram.

The group also said it is willing to hand over the administration of Gaza to an independent body of Palestinian technocrats, “based on Palestinian national consensus and Arab and Islamic support.”

Hamas added that other issues mentioned in Trump’s proposal, including the future of Gaza and the rights of the Palestinian people, would be addressed through a broader Palestinian national framework. “Hamas will participate and contribute responsibly,” the statement said.

Earlier this week, Trump unveiled a plan aimed at ending Israel’s genocide on Gaza, presenting it as a decisive ultimatum rather than a negotiable offer.

Speaking alongside Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Tuesday at the White House, Trump said Israel already agreed to the proposal. “We’re just waiting for Hamas,” he declared, as he gave the Palestinian group three to four days to respond.

The proposal includes a phased Israeli withdrawal from Gaza, international guarantees of self-governance for Palestinians in the enclave, and the release of captives and prisoners. It also promises reconstruction aid under international supervision.

The plan also stipulates that Hamas would lay down its arms and have no role in governing Gaza.

Trump warned that if Hamas does not accept the plan, Israel would be free to escalate its attacks on Gaza.

Hamas’s Mousa Abu Marzouk has rejected a key part of Trump’s Gaza proposal that says the US president will head a transitional oversight body for Gaza, called the “Board of Peace,” alongside other officials, including ex-UK Prime Minister Tony Blair.

Speaking to Al Jazeera, Abu Marzouk said that Palestinians will never accept an outside body having authority over them. “Palestinians should control themselves.”
