Head of the Moroccan Government, Aziz Akhannouch, took part, on Thursday in New York, in a meeting of the international Football federation (FIFA) dedicated to preparations of the 2030 World Cup, co-organized by Morocco, Portugal, and Spain.

The meeting, held at the request of FIFA President, Gianni Infantino, was attended by the Prime Minister of Spain, Pedro Sanchez, and the Portuguese Minister of Foreign Affairs, Paulo Rangel.

Speaking to the press following the meeting, held on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly, Akhannouch said that this meeting provided an opportunity for the three host countries to take stock of the progress of preparations for this large-scale football event.

He said the meeting, held in the FIFA office in the Trump Tower in New York, also provided an opportunity to highlight the state-of-the-art infrastructure, large-scale projects and the all-round reform momentum launched in key sectors in Morocco, under King Mohammed VI’s leadership.

The meeting also discussed the creation of the “Morocco 2030 Foundation” which will serve as an intermediary with the government in order to follow the execution of World Cup related programs.

Akhannouch pointed out that the impact of these structuring projects, which would benefit the people, would extend beyond the 2030 World Cup.
