The unchanging constants of Morocco’s position regarding the achievement of a realistic, pragmatic, and lasting political solution to the Sahara issue, were reaffirmed at a working session held in New York Monday between Moroccan Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita and the UN Secretary-General’s Personal Envoy for the Sahara, Staffan De Mistura.

The working session, attended by Morocco’s Permanent Representative to the UN Omar Hilale, was held at the request of the UN Envoy and is part of his consultations in preparation for the forthcoming meetings of the UN Security Council on the Sahara issue.

During the meeting, the Moroccan delegation reaffirmed the unchanging constants of the position of the Kingdom of Morocco, as set out by King Mohammed VI with a view to achieving a realistic, pragmatic, and lasting political solution based exclusively on the Moroccan Autonomy Initiative, within the framework of Morocco’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

The delegation reaffirmed the Kingdom’s support for the efforts led by the UN Secretary-General and his Personal Envoy.

Talks also focused on the latest developments regarding the growing international support for the Moroccanness of the Sahara and the Moroccan Autonomy Initiative as the only basis for achieving a political solution to the regional dispute over the Sahara, within the framework of the diplomatic momentum initiated by the King.
