AS FAR secured a 2-0 win over Real de Banjul in the first leg of the CAF Champions League preliminary round at the Olympic Stadium in Rabat.

The Moroccan side started strongly, creating several chances. Bach went close in the seventh minute, while Youssef El Fahli saw a shot blocked in the 16th, with Slim unable to control the rebound. A goal was ruled out for offside in the 25th minute.

El Fahli eventually broke the deadlock in the 27th minute with a powerful strike into the top corner. Minutes later, El Bouchkali hit the crossbar after the Gambian goalkeeper spilled a cross.

AS FAR continued to press, with Carneiro and El Fahli combining well on the left to force a double save. Defender Mendy impressed in his season debut, keeping Banjul’s attacks at bay.

In stoppage time, Hammoudan’s run set up Khabba who missed a clear chance. Moments later, Banjul scored an own goal in the 94th minute, sealing a 2-0 win for AS FAR.

The return leg will also be played in Rabat next week on September 27 in the Olympique Stadium.  Kick-off is at 20:00 (GMT+1).

Earlier in the day, RS Berkane earned a 1-1 draw away to ASKO de Kara of Togo.
