Rabat – The International Nuclear Societies Council (INSC) has confirmed the nomination of Khadija Bendam as the next Chair of the INSC Executive Board.
The Moroccan expert in nuclear safety and security takes on her new role starting today until the 2026 INSC General Assembly, the statement on her nomination says.
In a post on LinkedIn, Bendam expressed pride and honor to take on her new position.
“This is not just a personal achievement — it is the result of the support, encouragement, and guidance of so many people along the way,” she wrote.
Bendam said that her new position is an opportunity to continue to support the growth of women in nuclear and contribute to a “safe, secure, and sustainable future.”
The Moroccan expert also expressed pride and honor to be the first woman to hold this position, saying that this carries her deep respect for “those who paved the way and with the hope to encourage the next generation of scientists and leaders.”
Bendam, who is also responsible for nuclear and radiological safety at the National Center for Energy, Sciences, and Nuclear Techniques, is also the president of Women in Nuclear (WiN) Morocco.
She is a member of the Board of Directors and Executive Committees of WiN Global and WiN Africa. She is also the Vice President of the Arab Women’s Network in CBRN Security.
INSC is a hope to nuclear societies from across the world, representing over 80,000 nuclear professionals. It serves as a hub where representatives debate and share their visions and expertise in the sector.
Bendam’s new achievement comes following her appointment as the first vice president of the INSC in January. The milestone also marked her achievement as the first woman to hold the leadership role in the INSC.
Bendam’s appointment comes a few days after Morocco reiterated its strong backing of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA)’s role in Africa’s nuclear development.
Morocco has been a member state of the IAEA since 1957.
The North African country was also elected by acclamation to the IAEA Board of Governors for the 2024-2026 term during the agency’s 68th General Conference.
