Arab-Islamic Emergency Summit reiterates solidarity with Doha, condemns Israeli aggression against Qatar’s sovereignty – The North Africa Post

Kings and Heads of State of Islamic and Arab countries participating in the Arab-Islamic emergency summit held Monday in Doha reiterated their solidarity with Qatar, and condemned Israel’s aggression against its sovereignty.

The Arab and Islamic leaders stressed, in the final statement adopted at the end of the summit, that Israel’s aggression against Qatar and the ongoing hostile practices of Israel jeopardize peace prospects and peaceful coexistence in the region.

They also recalled that “this aggression against the territory of Qatar, a country playing a key role as a mediator in efforts to establish a ceasefire in Gaza, end the war, and secure the release of hostages and prisoners, stands as a dangerous escalation and undermines diplomatic efforts towards peace.”

The Summit, where King Mohammed VI was represented by Prince Moulay Rachid, also stressed the need to oppose and confront Israel’s plans to impose a new reality in the region, noting that these plans pose a direct threat to regional and international stability and security.

The Summit reiterated that a just, comprehensive, and lasting peace in the Middle East cannot be achieved through disregarding the Palestinian issue and the rights of the Palestinian people -let alone by resorting to violence or targeting mediators- but rather through respect for the Arab Peace Initiative and relevant international resolutions.

In this regard, the Arab-Islamic emergency summit urged the international community, in particular the Security Council, to assume its legal and moral responsibilities to end the Israeli occupation and establish a binding timetable to that end.

The final statement welcomed the adoption by the United Nations General Assembly of the New York Declaration on the implementation of the two-State solution and the creation of an independent Palestinian state, as the Declaration reflects the international will to support the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people, in particular their right to the creation of an independent state within the borders of June 4, 1967, with East Al-Quds as its capital.

Arab and Islamic Kings and Heads of State further affirmed their support for the Al-Quds Committee, chaired by King Mohammed VI, and its executive arm, Bayt Mal Al-Quds Asharif Agency, and emphasized the need to support Al Quds.

The summit was marked by addresses by Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al-Thani, Secretary General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Hussein Ibrahim Taha, Secretary General of the Arab League Ahmed Aboul Gheit, as well as heads of several participating delegations.
