Amrabat Seals Surprise Move to Real Betis

Sofyan Amrabat has completed his move to Real Betis, joining on loan from Fenerbahçe, Fabrizio Romano reports.

The Moroccan midfielder, 29, arrives in Seville on a deal running until June 2026, with Betis covering his salary in full. The agreement does not include an option to buy.

Amrabat adds experience and steel to the midfield. He rose to prominence during Morocco’s historic run to the 2022 World Cup semi-finals, where his relentless pressing and stamina earned plaudits. At Fiorentina, he made over 100 appearances and was central to their Europa Conference League final run in 2023. His season-long loan at Manchester United was mixed, featuring 10 Premier League starts and 21 appearances in all competitions, before a permanent switch to Fenerbahçe last year.

His arrival coincides with Betis’ biggest deal of the summer – the permanent signing of Antony dos Santos from Manchester United.

The Brazilian winger, 25, enjoyed a successful loan spell at the Benito Villamarín in the second half of last season, scoring nine goals and providing six assists in 26 matches. Those numbers convinced Betis to push through a €25m transfer, with United also securing 50% of any future sell-on fee.

Antony has signed a contract until 2030 and takes the No.7 shirt.

United’s manager Rúben Amorim did not count Antony in his plans, while the player himself made clear his wish to return to Seville. Betis supporters were equally vocal, reviving the nickname “Antonio de Triana” during the club’s announcement campaign.
