Morocco advances industrial ambitions through strategic economic zones – The North Africa Post

Morocco’s industrial transformation accelerates through three flagship projects—Midparc aerospace hub, Aït Melloul’s sustainable renovation, and Tanger Tech’s mega-complex—collectively representing the kingdom’s commitment to high-value manufacturing and international competitiveness. These developments exemplify a coordinated strategy combining innovation, sustainability, and workforce development to establish Morocco as a premier industrial destination.

Midparc, spanning 124 hectares near Mohammed V Airport, has emerged as Morocco’s premier aerospace acceleration zone. Originally conceived under the National Pact for Industrial Emergence, the facility now hosts over 150 European and Asian companies specializing in assembly, research and development, maintenance, and technical services. Recent investments underscore its momentum: Swedish company Trelleborg inaugurated a 106-million-dirham aerospace sealing facility creating 200 jobs, while Safran established an engine maintenance workshop and Germany’s Masterflex developed flexible tubing production capabilities.

The Aït Melloul industrial zone, established in 1988 across 354 hectares, underwent comprehensive rehabilitation in 2025 through a 60-million-dirham modernization program. Funded through the National Fund for Sustainable Industrial Zones, local authorities, and the Souss-Massa region, improvements encompass road infrastructure, lighting systems, and collective facilities while prioritizing ecological footprint reduction and waste management enhancement.

Tanger Tech represents Morocco’s most ambitious industrial venture. Despite initial delays since its 2017 launch, the project gained momentum in 2024 with Chinese groups Hailiang and Shinzoom announcing $910 million investments projected to create 3,800 jobs. While Shinzoom postponed its battery anode factory, Qingdao Sentury Tire acquired 20 hectares for 100 million dirhams. The zone targets 200 companies and 100,000 jobs within a decade, benefiting from free-trade zone status and proximity to Tanger Med port.

These industrial zones collectively demonstrate Morocco’s multifaceted approach to economic development, balancing modernization with sustainability while attracting international investment.
